Over the years we were approached by catalogue companies and major pet store chains wanting to sell the Hidy-Tidy. They required a knock-down model which could be sold and shipped cheaply and assembled at home. Our decision to build and ship the Hidy-Tidy assembled is to maintain a sturdy, solidly-built cabinet that is waterproofed-both inside and out. Inside joints are caulked to insure urine does not permiate the wood. This careful attention to detail cannot be done with a knock-down version, so we refused their offers.

Many litter box manufacturers claim that their product prevents tracking simply by placing an uncovered pan inside a cabinet. This is not correct! Litter will be scratched out of the pan and will fill the inside area with dirty, urine-soaked litter. With all this excess litter inside the cabinet, cats will still track litter out of the box. The whole interior will have to be vacuumed daily to keep urine from soaking info the wood.There is no such thing as a trackless litter box.

Hidy-Tidy has a patented, moisture-proof, wooden ledge that extends over the litter pan and keeps excess scratched litter in the pan. This ledge also acts as a glide when adding or removing litter. Small amounts of litter left on the ledge can be swept back into the pan. The ledge can be washed if accidents occur. A horizontal guard on the front portion of the ledge keeps litter from spilling or falling out the door.

There is also a "bag container" in the cabinet for keeping plastic bags handy for litter removal. Cup hooks are added for hanging a scoop and zeolite odor remover product. These items are available to order.

In researching "cat behavior" we found that most cats have a wild animal instinct that will not allow them to be placed into a situation where they can be trapped. This applies to covered litter boxes with only one opening. Many cats feel threatened because there is no escape route and will refuse to enter. Other cats will enter the litter box but turn around and peer out the opening looking for a threat.

By putting two openings in the Hidy-Tidy cabinets cats will enter and feel a sense of comfort and security because they realized there are two escape routes. These two openings also create a fresh air flow that keeps the cabinet from stinking. Air flow and using quality cat litter is very important.
